Description
These hybrid hazelnuts have majority native lineages, with some nonnative genetics included to increase nut size and decrease shell thickness. Beyond the nuts, the wood is incredibly useful for basketry, wickerwork, fencing, furniture, and more, and because these plants respond so well to coppicing (periodically cutting down to ground), they can become a long term material source.
They can thrive in almost any kind of soil, and are very drought resistant. Shade is tolerated but substantial nut production needs full sun. Will grow to 10′ to 12′, with a diameter of around 6′.
